The primary goal of this program is to give you an opportunity to develop the skills and knowledge necessary to pursue and become a certified addictions counselor in Illinois through the Illinois Alcohol and Other Drug Abuse Professional Certification Association (IAODAPCA)/Illinois Certification Board (ICB).
An addictions counselor’s professional training and levels of clinical experience vary. Addictions counselors provide alcohol and drug counseling and education by performing a number of key functions, which may include the following:

Moraine Valley's Addition Studies Certificate gives students the opportunity to take courses that specialize in the area of addictions and is designed to be to be taken in support of a degree in an area of the student’s primary interest. For example, students interested in Criminal Justice could benefit from a working understanding of addictions if they were going into the police force, probation or juvenile services.
